At Palm Coast Family Dentistry, we’re always prioritizing patient comfort and convenience. That’s why we do our best to stay up to date with all the latest in the world of dentistry so we can provide these services to our patients. Same-day dental crowns in Palm Coast are procedures we can perform here at Palm Coast Family Dentistry and have experience doing.
Not many patients are familiar with the concept of same-day crowns. As the name implies, these are crowns that are done from start to finish during the same visit, so patients don’t have to come in multiple times.
The Process of Getting a Same-Day Dental Crown
Same-day dental crowns are relatively recent advances in the world of dentistry that allow us to provide better service to our patients. The idea is that you come for a single visit and leave with your permanent dental crown without the need for any additional adjustments.
The first step of getting a same-day crown is to scan your teeth and oral cavity. We use an intra-oral camera to create a 3D image of the area where the crown will be applied. Once we have the 3D image, we’ll proceed to use a machine to create your crown.
Same-day crowns are made of ceramic, and the option of having them made of metal or porcelain, like traditional crowns, isn’t available. It depends on the machine used to create the crown in-office. After the crown is created, it’ll be permanently applied to the damaged tooth, and you can go home without delay.
Traditional Crowns
If you’ve never had crowns before, you may be wondering what traditional crowns involve at a dentist near you. The process typically begins with taking an impression of your teeth, which is then sent to a dental lab. The lab fabricates your custom crown and returns it to the office a few weeks later for placement.
Due to the delay and manufacturing of the crown in a lab, patients need to come in for a second visit to have the crown applied. Traditional crowns can be made of metal or porcelain, unlike same-day dental crowns.
